Kestrels - Year 5
Welcome to Year 5
I would like to take this opportunity to present to you some of the wonderful activities and areas of study that your children can look forward to in Year 5 at Cheapside CE Primary School.
During the year, the children will learn to appreciate a range of texts in English such as Street Child, Cosmic and the Midnight Fox. With the help of our structured reading comprehension and writing strategies, the books will come alive through drama and literacy analysis. Your children will develop their skills and understanding of core mathematical concepts, whilst progressing with their arithmetic fluency and reasoning analysis. Topics such as the properties of materials, the solar system, life cycles and reproduction give us opportunity to scientifically investigative the world around us. In History, we study the victorious Vikings, turbulent Tudors and glorious Greeks. Geography will enable us to explore the magnificent Alps, and our studies of the world’s oceans and deserts will make for fascinating contrasts. We use computers for software programming and developing our understanding of the digital world.
We have superb opportunities to bring our learning to life with our external trips to venues such as the Winchester Science Centre. In school, we are fortunate to have external professionals give us insights into the world of music, judo and horse racing at Ascot racecourse.
Thank you for visiting our Year 5 page and I hope you have enjoyed learning about what a wonderful and enriching time we are having here at Cheapside CE Primary School.
